BEFORE YOU BOOK
These Terms and Conditions are intended to provide clear information about your retreat, the booking process and the responsibilities of both Onikano and its guests.
By booking a retreat at Onikano, you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted the Terms and Conditions set out below.
1. ADMISSION
Onikano reserves the right to determine whether an applicant is suitable to receive treatment and take part in ceremonies and other activities at the centre. For this purpose, every guest must complete the Retreat Application Form on our website, which asks for sensitive information about your physical and mental health. This information is shared only with the members of our team trained to evaluate applications, and is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Onikano relies on the accuracy of your answers and accepts no responsibility for the consequences of false or incomplete information provided in the form.
2. HEALTH DECLARATION
By booking a retreat, you certify that the information provided in your Retreat Application Form regarding your physical and mental health, medical history and current medication is complete and accurate, and you agree to inform Onikano of any relevant change in your health between the time of your application and your arrival at the centre.
Regardless of prior declaration, upon arrival at Onikano, you must inform Maestro Niwen Koshi (Heberto García) of any medication you are currently taking or intend to take during your stay.
Certain medical conditions and medications are incompatible with the treatments offered at Onikano; withholding this information can pose a serious risk to your health. Onikano accepts no responsibility for consequences arising from inaccurate or incomplete health information.
3. TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS & LOGISTICS
Once you have booked your retreat and arranged your travel, please provide the Onikano team with the details of your arrival flight to Iquitos, or the hotel in Iquitos where you will be staying, so that we can coordinate your pick-up on the first day of your retreat. It is your responsibility to verify your reservations and the documentation required for travel to Peru, and to ensure that the details provided to our staff are correct.
4. TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travel insurance is mandatory for all guests. Your policy should cover trip cancellation and interruption — including flight delays, family emergencies or other unforeseen events that prevent you from completing your retreat — as well as medical care abroad and emergency evacuation.
Onikano is not responsible for costs arising from flight delays or cancellations, other transport disruptions, denied entry to Peru due to inadequate documentation, or medical care for health problems or accidents during your stay.
5. PAYMENT
Booking deposit. To reserve a retreat, a 30% deposit is required, usually paid through our website via PayPal. A PayPal account is not required, as credit card payments are accepted through the same platform.
Balance payment. The remaining 70% is due no later than 30 days before you arrive at the centre, unless you choose to pay the balance in cash upon arrival. The balance can be paid in USD or EUR via PayPal, bank transfer or cash at the centre. For bank transfers, please specify your currency in advance, as we use separate bank accounts for USD and EUR. If you plan to pay in cash, please let our team know when confirming your booking. Payment in Peruvian soles may be possible upon request.
Currencies and exchange rates. Our prices are set in EUR. When paying the balance in USD, the amount is calculated using the daily Google exchange rate. Please note that PayPal applies its own exchange rates and conversion fees, which may result in a difference between the amount sent and the amount received; in the event of a shortfall, the remaining balance is settled in cash upon arrival at the centre.
6. RETREAT DAYS
Our retreats typically begin on a Monday and end on a Sunday. The total retreat duration includes both the arrival and departure dates, regardless of the time you arrive at or leave the centre. For example, a 7-day retreat runs from Monday (arrival) through Sunday (departure).
The retreat officially ends after breakfast on the final day. Departure and transfer times are coordinated directly at the centre according to each guest’s flight or onward travel plans.
7. EXTENDING OR SHORTENING YOUR RETREAT
If you choose to extend your stay once you are at Onikano, we are happy to accommodate this whenever availability allows. In this case, you will only be charged the difference between the price of the retreat you originally booked and the price corresponding to the total length of your extended stay. Any additional amount must be paid at the time the extension is arranged, either in cash, via PayPal or by bank transfer.
If you decide to leave Onikano earlier than scheduled, this decision will be considered a voluntary interruption of your retreat. You will not be entitled to any refund for unused days, regardless of the reason for your departure.
8. ACCOMMODATION
All guests are accommodated in private, individual bungalows by default. Guests travelling together, including couples, friends or family members, may request to share a bungalow in advance, with either one double bed or two single beds, subject to availability.
Bungalows are located in different areas of the centre. Assignments are made according to availability, the timing of the booking and the order of arrival. Guests may indicate a preference in the Retreat Application Form; however, specific bungalow requests cannot be guaranteed.
The retreat price is the same for private and shared accommodation.
9. LIABILITY FOR PERSONAL BELONGINGS
Guests are responsible for the safekeeping of their personal belongings and valuables during their stay. Upon arrival, guests are encouraged to place passports, travel documents, cash and other valuables in the secure storage provided by Onikano.
Onikano is not responsible for the loss, theft or damage of personal belongings or valuables that have not been placed in the secure storage provided by the centre.
10. CENTRE POLICIES
All guests are required to respect the policies of the centre and to behave in a manner that preserves the safety, privacy, tranquillity and wellbeing of other guests, staff and the surrounding environment.
- Guests must use the centre and its facilities only for their intended purpose and must not engage in any illegal, dangerous, disruptive, offensive or inappropriate behaviour.
- Guests must avoid any behaviour that causes unreasonable disturbance, nuisance or discomfort to other guests, staff members or members of the Onikano team.
- Guests are expected to respect the Amazonian ecosystem and must not intentionally harm wildlife, damage vegetation or remove plants or other natural materials from the surrounding environment without permission.
- Guests are responsible for taking reasonable care of the accommodation, furniture, equipment and other property belonging to Onikano. Any damage caused through negligence or misuse may be charged to the guest responsible.
- Guests must respect the privacy of others and maintain the confidentiality of personal information shared by or about other guests during their stay.
- The possession or consumption of alcohol and recreational drugs is strictly prohibited at the centre and throughout the duration of the retreat.
- Guests must not self-medicate during the retreat. If you feel unwell or believe you need any medication — including common over-the-counter remedies — always speak to a facilitator or a member of our team first.
11. RIGHT OF MODIFICATION
Onikano reserves the right to make reasonable changes to accommodation arrangements, facilities, the retreat schedule, ceremonies, treatments or other activities when necessary due to operational, safety, health, weather or other circumstances.
Any concerns or complaints arising during the retreat should be brought to the attention of the Onikano team as soon as possible so that we have the opportunity to address them during your stay.
12. CANCELLATION BY ONIKANO
If Onikano needs to cancel or reschedule your retreat, you may choose between a full refund of all payments made — including the deposit — or transferring the full amount to a new retreat date. This refund or transfer constitutes the full and final settlement of the cancellation.
Onikano is not responsible for any additional costs incurred as a result of such cancellation, including non-refundable flights, accommodation or other travel arrangements. Guests are therefore required to have appropriate travel insurance covering trip cancellation.
13. CANCELLATION BY THE GUEST
If you are unable to attend your retreat on the agreed dates, you may request to postpone your retreat to a later date. Postponement requests received at least 30 days before your scheduled arrival date are accommodated subject to availability, and all payments made — including the deposit — remain valid for a new retreat date within 12 months of the original arrival date. Postponement requests received fewer than 30 days before arrival are considered at Onikano’s discretion.
In the event of cancellation by the guest, regardless of the reason, the following refund policy applies:
- Cancellation 29 days or fewer before the scheduled arrival date, or failure to arrive: no refund.
- Cancellation 30 to 60 days before the scheduled arrival date: refund of up to 50% of the total retreat price.
- Cancellation more than 60 days before the scheduled arrival date: refund of up to 70% of the total retreat price.
The 30% booking deposit is non-refundable in all cases. Any refund is limited to the amount actually paid beyond the non-refundable deposit.
Refunds are processed within 30 days of cancellation confirmation, through a payment method agreed with our team, which may differ from the method used for the original payment. Transaction fees charged by payment providers are not covered by Onikano.
14. TERMINATION OF STAY
Onikano reserves the right to end the stay of any guest who seriously or repeatedly breaches these Terms and Conditions — including the Centre Policies — or whose behaviour endangers their own safety or that of others, or disrupts the healing process of other guests.
In such cases, no refund will be issued for the remaining days of the retreat, and any costs arising from the guest’s early departure will be the guest’s responsibility.
15. PRIVACY & CONFIDENTIALITY
Onikano respects the privacy and confidentiality of its guests. Personal, medical and other information provided to Onikano will be handled with appropriate care and used only for purposes related to the assessment, organisation and delivery of your retreat, except where disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect health and safety.
For full details on how we collect, store and protect your personal data, please see our Privacy Policy.
16. PHOTOGRAPHY & IMAGE USE
Photography and video recording may occasionally take place at the centre. Onikano will not intentionally publish identifiable images or recordings of guests for marketing or social media purposes without their consent.
Guests are welcome to take personal photographs at the centre, provided they respect the privacy of other guests and staff and do not photograph anyone without their permission. Ceremonies may not be photographed or recorded by guests.
17. INFORMED CONSENT & ASSUMPTION OF RISK
By booking a retreat at Onikano, you acknowledge and accept the following:
- Participation in Onikano activities may involve the ceremonial use of Ayahuasca and/or other master plants with psychoactive properties, prepared and administered within the Shipibo healing tradition.
- Working with master plants may engage you physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Possible effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness and intense emotional or psychological experiences. These effects, including purging, are recognised within the traditional healing process.
- You agree to follow the dietary, preparation, health and safety guidelines provided by Onikano before and during your retreat, as these are intended to support your safety and the retreat process.
- Participation in each ceremony and activity is voluntary. You attend Onikano as a result of your own research, interest and free decision.
- Onikano makes no promises or guarantees regarding the cure of any illness or condition, nor regarding the nature or outcome of any spiritual, emotional, psychological or physical experience. Each person’s process is unique.
- You understand that travelling to and staying in the Peruvian Amazon involves inherent risks, including tropical diseases, insects, wildlife, environmental conditions and the general risks associated with international travel.
- You accept personal responsibility for your own actions, safety and wellbeing during your stay, and for any additional expenses arising from illness, injury, accident or other unforeseen circumstances. For this reason, valid travel insurance is required for all guests.
18. FORCE MAJEURE
Onikano is not responsible for the failure to fulfil its obligations due to events beyond its reasonable control, including natural disasters, transport or airport disruptions, or the non-performance of third-party suppliers. In such cases, we will work with affected guests to reschedule their retreat wherever possible.
19. GOVERNING LAW & JURISDICTION
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Peru. Both parties agree to seek an amicable resolution to any disagreement. If no amicable resolution can be reached, any dispute shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Iquitos, Peru.
